Six pilgrims, including three women and a toddler, were killed on the spot and at least 100 were injured in a stampede in the sacred Maha Shivaratri Mela in Junagadh on Sunday night. The toll mounted to seven on Monday morning when one of those injured died in the government hospital of the historic town.

He cited the swift response to a stampede on January 29 and the extensive preparations that ensured a smooth experience for millions of pilgrims.
The Ganga water at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, where lakhs of people are taking a holy dip every day during the ongoing Maha Kumbh, is currently unsafe for bathing as it exceeds the prescribed limit for biological oxygen demand (BOD), a key parameter to determine water quality, according to government data.
